Desmond in morning light at Telok Blangah

Note Swift is the porch I keep for words that would otherwise evaporate between the first bus and the second cup — small entries written from Telok Blangah before the harbour fully wakes. I am Desmond. I work ordinary hours and return to a flat on Telok Blangah Drive where the corridor light buzzes once before settling, the way old fittings do when they have learned the building's rhythm.

The home index carries a walk from Havelock Road after late supper on 12 November 2025, uphill toward Kampong Bahru and past 51 Chin Swee Road. That piece lives at the root address without ceremony. It is not pinned or featured; it simply belongs at the door because it was the note that made me want a porch at all.

On the stack you will find five slips from January through May — first kopi below the flats, the hill path before six, a bus interchange where the same driver appears each week, an evening with the radio low and the window open to harbour hum, and a void deck noticeboard that nobody reads with full attention. Each slip has a photograph because I like anchoring language to a single frame of light. They are not a series. They are separate mornings and evenings that happened to earn a page.

I use British spelling because it is what school drilled into me, and because neighbour and colour look correct on my screen. I mention kopi, void decks, HDB blocks, and hill paths when they belong in the sentence. I do not write to impress strangers. I write to remember, and to offer a quiet corner of the internet that behaves like a notebook rather than a billboard.

If you are new here, read the index walk first if you like long pavement; otherwise choose any slip from the stack. The corner page explains how I treat this site — personal views, no professional advice, no commerce. The say hello page holds my email because there is no form to fail. I read messages in early mornings, Singapore time, and reply when I can, which is not always quickly.

Maps on this site point toward Telok Blangah Hill Park, a place I walk when I want trees without travelling far. You may hide embedded maps until you choose otherwise; the cookie notice explains that in plain language. Nothing here tracks you across the web. First-party cookies remember your consent and, if you allow it, a text-size preference.

My metaphors are domestic on purpose: kettle steam, the first bus, harbour cranes at a distance, radio at low volume. They are the furniture of my week. If something here feels familiar — a coffeeshop table, a lift lobby, a window ledge — it may be because your city also keeps its gentleness in small rooms.

Thank you for arriving without fanfare. The porch is open. The stack is inside. Take what you need and leave the rest.

If you prefer paper to screens, print a slip for yourself and consider the ink a compliment — I will never know, and that is fine too.
